Unicoi Gap, GA (mile 52.9)
Last night was cold and sleep was hard to come by. I must have woke up twenty times to readjust and try to warm up, but nothing worked. When we woke up this morning I was feeling tired and a little discouraged.
We packed up in the cold morning and set out to do our first 15 mile day to Tray mountain. The first 7.2 went by quickly and I was surprised at how good I felt physically, but mentally I was still dragging. While we were eating lunch Serial suggested taking a night in Hiawasee to get a good night's sleep and rejuvenate my spirits. Brilliant idea and just what I needed.
We hiked another 2.4 down to Unicoi Gap to get the shuttle to Ron Haven's Budget Inn and now I'm curled up in bed already feeling a million times better. Tomorrow we will catch the 11am shuttle back to the trail and get back at it.
Rooney is resting up too. His cough faded and we got him some good grocery store meat and oils. We spend so much time watching Rooney and talking about how he's doing. He is so important to me and I just want to make sure he is happy and healthy too.
